Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) volunteers in New Mexico USA had responded to the Dog Head fire affecting a wide area and causing activations.
ARES is supporting Emergency Operations Centres as well as providing emergency communications for the evacuation centres.
Likely to meet all ARES communication needs are two voice repeaters located away from the fire.
The blaze had engulfed two dozen homes and also other structures. Firefighters aggressively extinguished hot spots from the ground and air, allowing a flank to be contained, but still had work to do.
