Indian alert for Cyclone Nilofar

Ham radio and oth­er prepa­ra­tions includ­ing evac­u­a­tions are being made for Cyclone Nilo­far, like­ly to move towards the Gujarat state coast in the next 48 hours. 

Local author­i­ties are mon­i­tor­ing the sit­u­a­tion and have been advised to keep their con­trol rooms operational. 

The India Mete­o­ro­log­i­cal Depart­ment has now fore­cast­ed iso­lat­ed heavy to very heavy rain­fall as Cyclone Nilo­far inten­si­fied fur­ther into a severe cyclonic storm. 

Ama­teur Radio Soci­ety of India Nation­al Coor­di­na­tor for Dis­as­ter Com­mu­ni­ca­tion Jayu Bhide VU2JAU had not named a fre­quen­cy for emer­gency com­mu­ni­ca­tions, but 7.145 MHz was used dur­ing the recent Cyclone Hud­hud disaster.
