Ham operators of Gujarat have responded to requests from the Government of Gujarat to set up their stations as a precautionary measure at Bhuj, Dwarika, Porbandar and Rajkot.
This is ahead of Cyclone Nilofar forecast to land in the coastal area and intensify into a severe cyclonic storm.
National Coordinator for Disaster Communication Jayu Bhide VU2JAU says ham operators from Gandhinagar and Rajkot will be operating stations very soon.
He says the operating frequencies are 7035 kHz, 14135 kHz and VHF also. Cooperation is being sought to keep those frequencies clear for emergency traffic.
Based at Gwalior he remains in contact with all the stations and keeps a listen on those frequencies.
Jayu VU2JAU says Cycle Nilofar Cyclone is likely to hit Kutchh and the coastal area of Gujarat.
He reports that Gujrat hams have become active at stations set up all important places where the cyclone is expected.
